Excellent - I got a "There's some woman wailing out of key on your computer" today from the wife. Once again I had to explain - That's Donna and you just have to take the Bad with the Good.

Yes, I've had the same Donna conversation w/the wife more times than i care to.

"She couldn't hear herself on stage", I explain lamely.

"Too bad we have to hear her off stage", the wife replies.

"But honey, listen to the JAM!"

"You listen to it."

"OK, I will."

(and you think things on the forum get snippy! ;-)

I'm actually quite lucky....the wife tolerates my Dead indulgences as best she can, and I even caught her enjoying "Don't Ease" from the Baked Alaska 1980 show the other day.

I think I have posted this before - my wife and I were at a DSO show and she asked me if I thought Lisa should be insulted that she was hired because she could "sing" like Donna.

My wife's Dead event horizon consists of one show - 12/19/94 so her perspective is somewhat constrained. She will tell you she was glad to have never experienced Donna's caterwauling and won't listen to my argument that it is an acquired taste.

I hear you, brother.

It's hard to explain away Donna. But fact is, she was smack dab in the middle of my favorite Dead era, especially 1977. To me, she hardly makes a dent in my listening pleasure (with the exception being when she sings "Shine!" during "Stella Blue". That killed a LOT of Stellas for me in the 70's. To me that song had a rebirth when Brent joined the band.)

That is always the best - catch them singing along when they are not looking. I caught the wife singing along to a particularly good AUD I put on last week.
